ARTIST

„It was love at first sight, the recorder and I. From the first moment I held the instrument in my hands, I felt connected to it in an emotional sense. I was fascinated by its vast range of sounds and inspired by its power of brilliance. In the recorder, I have found a personal expression to bring my creativity and the joy of making music alive. Over the years, the recorder has brought me the opportunity to explore new dimensions in music, to broaden and to deepen my artistic being and at the same time, to keep my musical curiosity to seek further, wider.“ Kristina Schoch

Kristina Schoch is an award winner of several competitions, including the German “Jugend musiziert”, as a finalist in both recorder and piano. She is the recipient of a double scholarship from the DAAD, the German Academic Exchange Service. She has performed in concert and recorded in Germany, the Czech Republic, Austria, Sweden, Switzerland, the USA and Canada. With her rich and varied repertoire for all instruments of the recorder family she engages listeners and is widely recognized as an accomplished virtuoso: she has already been featured on television with a live interview on SWR Southwest Broadcasting and has performed for the Swedish Royal Family. As chamber musician she played with artists such as Reinhold Friedrich, Leif Karlsson, Laurens Patzlaff, the members of the Freiburg Baroque Orchestra and the Berlin Philharmonics. As soloist she has performed with conductors Reinhard Goebel, Andrew Lawrence-King and Karlheinz Steffens. Since 2014 she has been the conductor of the recorder orchestra “Aquarella” in Switzerland.

In 2022, together with recorder player Sabrina Frey, she founded the Recorder Orchester Zurich (BOZH), which consists of more than 30 players and meets for several projects a year.
In collaboration with composers, many new works have been written for and premiered by Kristina Schoch. In Germany as well as in Canada she was invited as lecturer for workshops, talks and symposia.

As a music educator, she has been involved with school projects in collaboration with the clown Roger Koch. In 2011–2014 she was lecturer at the University of Music in Trossingen and presently she teaches at the Music School and Conservatory in Zürich, and dedicates herself in fostering and promoting young music talents. In addition to recorders, she also gives lessons on the piano. Adjudication in competitions completes her pedagogical aspect of musical work.

Born in 1982 in Karlsruhe, Kristina Schoch started playing the piano at age seven, followed by studies on accordion, violin and singing in the choir, then at ten, the recorder – first as an autodidact. At 15, she started the precollege at the University of Music in Karlsruhe with Karel van Steenhoven and finished her studies with distinction. With a scholarship from the German Academic Exchange Service (DAAD), she studied with Dan Laurin at Royal College of Music in Stockholm and at Mozarteum University Salzburg with Dorothee Oberlinger. Her musical education experience was enriched by lessons for flauto traverso from Karl Kaiser (Freiburger Baroque Orchestra). In addition to the recorder, the piano continues to be an important instrument for her and she particularly enjoys playing in chamber music settings. Her teachers, among others, were Sontraud Speidel, Rolf Lindblom and Dirk Mommertz.
